Design Brief

Detailed development of an initial outline specification in close collaboration with the main contractor to realise a whisper-quiet system in flawless cohesion with the client’s interior design vision. Discreet air terminals were specified to blend subtly into the interior, and systems were designed to comply with local Conservation Area planning requirements.

Solution

The client’s requirements were for equipment in the bedrooms to be completely invisible and whisper-quiet. Calibre developed the outline design to specify attenuated vertical fan coil units carefully hidden behind the bespoke joinery in all bedrooms, supplying discreet air terminals such as slots in the joinery and skirting board, and inconspicuous plaster-in slot diffusers to sit flush with the ceiling.

MVHR was installed to the bathrooms, featuring similar slot diffusers in the ceiling, while air terminals in the other living spaces, including the dining room, reception room and kitchen comprised a selection of slots in cornices, joinery, and slot diffusers in the ceiling. The external unit was located in an acoustic enclosure on the roof of the property, not visible from the road, to exceed local authority planning and noise requirements.
